Friday, September 6th, the Ramona High School cross country team ventured to Rohr Park to participate in the Ian Cumming/Tim Latham Invitational. The race circled through the park going up and downhill, through grass and on dirt with family members of racers lining both sides of the course cheering. Fifteen athletes from Ramona raced alongside athletes from 51 other schools across the county.

In the girl's varsity two-mile run, junior Isabella Acardi had a time of 14:00:60 and came in 16th place. “I've been running since elementary school, doing the running club and the quadruple crown races, so I guess it just kind of went from there.” said Isabella Acardi.

“I like being in the mix with all the other girls (while running)... I also like the team aspect where all the girls are on the starting line together, and everyone's braiding each other's hair, and it's just really fun.” said Acardi.

“There's so many good parts. I mean, the feeling afterward, the lessons it teaches. It teaches you to follow through and how to not quit… when I came to high school, it gave me a group that made me part of something, too.” said Katie Beals, a senior, in her fourth year of running cross country.

Beals described looking forward to participating in upcoming meets once her injury heals especially Mt. Sac invitational, “It's my personal favorite course. A lot of the runners' favorite courses depend on who you ask, though. It's got three big hills. And it's up in Walnut, around LA, the course is a part of the Olympic trial course.”

Ramona High School had 5 participants for the Girls JV two-mile race with Emma Acardi finishing with a time of 15:56.80 coming in 15th place, Yaretzy Ramos 28th, Lara Welty 30th, Pyper Coleman 57th, and Chloe Cole in 78th. Overall for the Girl's JV race, Ramona placed fourth with a 2:34 1-5 split and a 17:02 time average.

Meanwhile, for the Boy's Varsity two-mile race Ramona placed 15th overall with a 4:35 1-5 split and a 13:23 average. The Varsity team also had 5 participants with Dylan Duley-Kahle finishing with a time of 11:19.40 in 26th place, Brandon Asher DiPietro 52nd, Glenn Ertl 84th, Logan Yeates 125th, and Mark Ethington 132nd.

Mark Ethington, a senior, has enjoyed being able to participate in competition runs. “What I learned is I need to keep myself in a good slower pace until I go out in the course until the third half.” he said.

Be sure to look out for upcoming cross country events and show support for our bulldogs!
