The last home game of the football season brought senior night on Friday, October 18th. The varsity bulldogs faced Del Norte and scored 7-35
“The game didn't turn out how we wanted it, but it was a great, honoring of our 25 seniors they put in hard work here for many years and they're great young men and we're gonna have a chance in the playoffs, believe it or not, we're gonna we're gonna have a chance to keep this thing going.” said coach Damon Baldwin. “It's based on your max prep's rating, and right now, we're in the playoffs, we just don't know what division yet, so we'll know after the Fallbrook game,” he added.
Honoring senior football players the game held an opening ceremony with each of the players walking onto the field with their families and their names being announced.
“The senior that has grown the most. Would be Emanual Lucas, he's an offensive lineman. There were times I wasn't sure if you would ever get on the field, and he just kept working and he's and he's having a really good year.” Baldwin said proudly.
“Just watching this team grow, it was gonna be sort of a rebuilding year, as it wasn't a lot of experience as a lot of those guys didn't play last year. But they have gotten better, sometimes the score shows it, but they've always shown up on time every day. They had practice every day. They work hard, so that's been the biggest thing. And I think they're gonna be rewarded even though the season hasn't gone as well as we want.” stated Baldwin
Nick DiPietro, a senior on the varsity football team said “It's been fun. I've learned to just accept myself for who I am and going to just be the best player I can be and fight every day.” he continued by saying “I'm most proud of last year when we ran the ball for 455 yards against Mount Carmel, especially since I started last year as a rookie and I had never played before.”
Not only did the football game honor seniors in the opening ceremony from the boy’s football team but also the Bulldog Angels who helped pass out water to players and the filming crew. The cheer and song team also honored their seniors that night and they even ended up flying every senior on the cheer team into the air as a part of tradition. Also honored were senior members of the band and color guard.
The halftime performance during the football game included a band and color guard performance with a theme of “The Giving Tree” book by Shel Silverstein, with green flags and a tree sculpture, as well as a cheer and song performance, and a performance by the dance productions and its dance camp members.
The football game had a spirited turnout and hopefully, the Bulldogs will continue on in the playoffs this year, stay tuned!
